books0977: Kitty Packe (c.1820). Sir William Beechey (English, 1753-1839). Kitty Packe was married to Charles William Packe, member of Parliament, in 1823. The book she is holding deals with domestic skills and a cultured upbringing. Pasquin used the term ‘delicate’ to describe Beechey’s work, and it is precisely this lack of extravagance, and his delicacy and chastity in colour, composition, and finishing that give Beechey his distinct style and that caused him to appeal to a slice of British society. It was this ‘nature’ in Beechey’s work that made him attractive to the king, George III.
